96+ engine swap options

Ok so this is my first post but hopefully it'll be a helpful one. I've been searching and not coming up with much luck. I currently own a TT supra and a 96 4Runner. Needless to say, the truck needs a little more power. I see a lot of topics concerning swaps but they seem to pertain to the 2nd gen. What are you guys using in the 96+'s ? 7mgte? 1jz? 2jz? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

How hard is it to install the hood w/the scoop? direct bolt on replacement? Im picking mine up in 2 weeks

I hope the Runner you have has a 4 popper cause if you are swapping out the V6 in favor of an inline six, you may have wasted a good sum of cash on nothing. The V6 can be upgraded with a supercharger and aftermarket headers and exhaust, with these the motor is incredible! Why not wait a few more years till the motor in your Runner is tired, then swap it out. The reason most guys haven't put different motors in their 3rd gens is because they don't need to, motor is still running strong. BTW, comparing a TT supra and a 4Runner is like apples and oranges, they are completely different vehicles in every aspect

Its the 6 cyl. I realize they are totally different cars with different performance levels. the truck is just a truck and doesnt have the greatest gas mileage. Rather than spending $5k +/- on the motor thats in there I wanted to explore my options and see what others have done.

If you are going to part with some real coin, at least use the new V8 with a S/C.
Most of use just take the easy route and supercharge the 3.4L and call it good.

The best bang from your buck will be a 2jz-gte horsepower wise. I've seen 900+ hp with stock internals. Also people have gotten 600+hp from converting a 2jz-ge to a turbo. So you could save some money by buying a ge, then later on when you have money do a single turbo conversion. Also the 2jzs get pretty good gas mileage. I saw a test where a 600 hp supra got around 28 mpg.

If you are gonna run much over 300 HP, you better slam that thing to the ground an upgrade the brakes. A 4Runner with that kind of power would be unsafe in every regard in stock form.

Pick up a SC for $1800. Get the UDR SC kit for $900. Call it a day. The 5VZ will serve you well, and you only dropped $3K without all the swap hassle.

Not a huge s/c fan but its a possibility. I was also looking for something that would improve performance and gas mileage.

What should I look for when purchasing the s/c?
What is included in the UDR S/C kit?
What other parts are needed to make it work correctly? 7th injector or upgrade all 6?

Out of curiousity, does anyone make the scooped hood besdies toyota?
