96-98 4runner grill

does the 96-98 4runner grill only come in chrome? and would it fit in an 02 runner?

It comes in chrome and grey like I have. No painted applications if that is what you were thinking. It will fit though. This 96 4runner with an 02 style grill. So I would assume a 96 grill would fit on an 02 4runner.

Is the black grill a glossy or matte black?

From what I've seen it matches the black paint.

thanks man. but i've got an idea for a project . i sure do like that T O Y O T A grill, so i'm looking into it. i want to keep the 02 one for now, in case the project doesn't turn out well.

i'm thinking i'll need a gray 96-98 one, the chrome would be harder to paint black.

if your doing what I am thinking you are, I don't believe a land cruiser grill will fit.

Don't know if the '96 grille will fit in the '02 but mine was just plastic. So it's easy to lightly sand and spray paint to whatever quality and color you desire.

Here's an example.

He isn't going to use the whole grill, just the lettering from the LC. There is a surf in Japan that did it. Looks pretty sweet, and if you do get rid of the grill you can give it to Brian. He needs it more than I do, and it would look better on his anyway . Good luck on the mod! Are you going to do a mesh grill at the same time like the surf did? or something new?

then I hope he does a write-up, cause I might follow suit, but only the lettering, I want mine black and I'm fixing to get it painted along with the rear bumper. a buddy of mine paints cars, cobras and old classics so he said he do it free.

Here is what it would look like. If you use the LC badge the "toyota" will be bigger, I think.

that looks sick! thanks for the photochop!

yeah, you're right about the newer LC "toyota". i'd prefer one from an FJ40, but i'm guessing those are hard to come by.

All 3rd gens interchange. I replaced my '00 with a grey '96-'98 grill and painted it to match. Pics on my site.

I found a grille on Ebay for 20 bucks. Nice chrome '98. I'll see how this looks with chrome as I have a lot of chrome on my Runner...I would go the painted route, but the Toyota body shop had a hella time with my spoiler...Horizon Blue is very tough to match, a hint of violet pearl. Anywho, there are a few LC parts joints on the net...NOS LC grille emblems run abot 50-80 bucks...depending on the style. I believe the chrome one is cheaper than the white one (which I think Satoshi used) so it's not gonna be a cheapo mod. I'll see if my friend can weld up a frame and mounting tabs, tack on the mesh and maybe powdercoat black...I have my eyes on a billet insert if all else fails.
