Tacoma 95.5 v6 5spd. My mechanic told me that my controller module was out and that was why my 4wd was so flakey/non-existent. The problem is that nothing seems to share this exact controller module, no wreckers have one in stock, and no one makes one. The P/N on the part is 89533-35050. Any suggestions? (ones that don't involve much work)

The controller is a basic pulse counter that ensures that 4wd is only engauged under certain conditions (speed limited).

There are theads here and other Internet sources for "hot wiring" that turn the "box" into your brain..

The controller needs repaired. You, your mechanic, or someone needs to put their senses to it and find the malfunction, be it a cracked solder joint or burnt component.

Your local "you pull it we sell it" salvage yard is a good place to start for a replacement. Other options are the salvage yard search engines (sorry don't recall the URL offhand), one of the Toyota specific salvage yards which don't affiliate with the search engine.

 

I pulled the circuit board out. It looked good.

A tacoma at a u pull salvage yard lasts about 2 seconds out here, if they even show up. that's before you consider whether or not it's a 95. Calling around to professional wrecking yards got me nothing either.

Anyone got a spare?
