95.5 3.4L transmission

sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have a 95.5 3.4L 4x4 tacoma and my 5sp-manual transmission is starting to bite the dust. Most of my countershaft or input bearings came out in dust form in my trans oil.. Looked into rebuilds, and buddy is quoting me $2k-$3k, which is roughly what my truck cost.

So now, I'm looking into just swapping the trans. question is: should I just look for any old 95.5-04 tacoma transmission? does the 4runner have the same one? I know my gearing was somewhat shorter than a friends '00 tacoma (based on me driving both trucks), and I'd prefer longer gearing, but I'm not sure what will bolt up.

Also: anyone in western canada have a decent trans for sale? I live in Calgary these days, and I will post in the wanted section here and on kijiji as soon as I figure out exactly what I'm looking for..
