My friend Dave is having problems with his 95.5 Tacoma not idling.v6,auto with 68,000 miles,What could this be?Truck runs good otherwise,just wont idle.Any clues where to start looking?

 

TPS or idle adjustment...I had the same problem...

Can you give more detaila bout it not being able to idle...does it do it EVERY time, does it stall EVERY time...more details would help.

I had a problem with my 95 4R where it would shake vigorously and act like it would cut out but it never quite did...it was a gummed up TPS...

What is a TPS?& how did you ungum it?Yes it does it everytime & stalls when you put it in gear,the idle is very low & you have to give it gas to put it in gear or it dies.

 

Uh...hate to break it to ya but a 3.4 has no TPS adjustment.

Any check engine light?

Look for cracked or disconnected vacum lines.
Make sure plugs are in good shape (pull and look).
Change the fuel filter (just to be sure).
Run a pull tank of premium with injector cleaner in it.
Clean out the throttle body (most likely cause).

 

No check engine light on when engine is running.Always runs good gas,fuel filter was changed 10,000 miles ago,Tune up 28,000 miles ago,he's going to try throttle body clean up.Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

 

Do the 3.4's have a TPS? I wasn't talking about an adjustment...the sensor was sticking because it was gummed up. I just used some good carb cleaner on mine...
