Question 95 4Runner Steering Wheel Vibrates

I have a 95 4Runner and I have had a vibration of the steering wheel lately around 40 - 50 mph. The alignment is perfect and the tires are balanced but it still persists. I heard once that the brakes could be a factor and I wanted to know if worn rotors could be responsible for this?

if the vibration occurs when you apply the brakes at those speeds, then yes, the problem would be warped rotors.

IMO, don't waste your money having them turned. Just go buy new. turned rotors will only warp again and quicker. I don't play around with the brakes. Do it right the first time.

Make sure all your lugnuts are tight....Assuming that its not associated with braking, you may have just lost a wheel weight and now have an imbalanced tire. I'd bring them in and have the tires rebalanced.

When was the last time you rotated your tires? With the toe-in of a 4 wheel drive, the front tires will wear on the outsides and tend to "cup" the tread. The more aggressive the tread, the more you will feel it and even see it. The speed sounds about right too. years ago I had an '83 Yota that I was certain was moments away from blowing bearings and axles all over the road. I got it to a drivetrain shop and the owner took it for a drive, came back and said, "rotate your tires". It worked like a charm. Advice I have heeded ever since, especially with MTRs.

there's nothing wrong with machining rotors, so long as you don't go down past the specified limit.

Mine had the same problem--ended up being the idler arm. I rebuilt it for $13.00

Do 95 4 Runners have a 2 piece driveline?? I'm new to Toys so I don't know. If so, your center support bearing could be sloppy causing the drive shaft to rotate eliptically (sp) at higher speeds. I have exactly the same problem as you on my 94. At 50-60 MPH I get a vibration like an unbalanced tire but I just had them balanced...twice. No change after balancing, not even a little. And, no change after rotating them around. I started checking the driveline and found about 1 1/2"+ of slop in the CSB all around and the bearing actually rubbing on the bottom of the rubber mount. Seriously worn, basically not there. Going with a one piece slip driveline next week
