94 to 91 Headlight conversion
Does anyone know if its
possible to put the headlights
and grill from a 91 runner onto
a 94 4runner?
The headlights and grill of my 94 are
messed up, and besides, I like the
look of the 91 style. Has
anyone tried this before?

are you talking about changing from the little bulbs to the full sealed glass halogen deals?
I'm not sure how difficult that would be but as far as the grille is concerned it should fit (99%).
I'm not 100% about these things since I bought a used 91 front bumper for mine and the turn signal bulbs wouldn't fit the amber housing without some cutting.
I'd say do it.

I think that it can be done. I want to do the opposite though. I have a 94 pickup that has the Hella Euro square headlights, and I want to swap in the 92-95 grille and composite headlights. I saw a pic on the Total Chaos website that had such a setup. I think it would be pretty cool looking, and would certainly get double-takes from fellow Toyota owners. I already get double-takes as it is though.

Bolverk,
You're the first person I heard that wanted to go back to the older style headlights! Of course I'm biased, but I think the 90/91 style makes the 4Runner look more rugged.
I'm pretty sure you can do this--a long time ago I saw some guys website who had a 91 4Runner with 92 grille and head lights. I cannot seem to find this site anymore--maybe the guy's on yotatech??
The only concern may be getting the head light brackets mounted as the 92 and up rigs don't have them.

There is a lot of stuff that's needs to be done to get this to work and it's going to be $. Honestly, I don't think it's worth it.

It kinda depends....
The grill on my 94 is broken,
and the headlights are f%#ed
up. The adjusting screws on the
passenger light are broken, er more
like the plastic piece that the screw goes
into, and so it points pretty much
straight down, the other headlight was
adjusted to compensate for both, but
doesnt really work all that great, it points
way too high, but thats the only way
to see at night without the other. That one
seems to have stripped the plastic so it
wont move anymore either.
The reason im interested in doing this
is mostly because, I cant seem to find
a junk yard with a runner 92-95, all
ive seen so far are 90-91, and I think
that it would be cheaper for me to get
the grill and lights off one of those than
to order the 92-95 style grill and lights.
So far the cheapest I have seen those
parts for sale online are;
Grill $54
headlights $110 (each)
Parts Train

does that link u posted work?

The radiator support on the 90-91 4Runner is the same as the 90-95 pick-up. The 92-95 4Runner is completely different. I tried putting 92-95 4Runner headlights and grill in my 90 4runner and nothing lined up right.

I have a quick fix that may work to temporarily fix the aiming problem with your healight. I smacked my front bumper on a rock and it broke the upper plastic piece where the aiming screw attaches to the rear of the light ('92 4Runner). So the headlight was point down in front of the bumper. Go to Home Depot and in the nut and bolt section you will find a thing which I don't know what its called but it has closed eye hooks on both ends that are threaded into a center piece. If you hold both of the eye hooks and turn the center piece, it either expands or contacts the length of the entire assembly. Buy the smallest one they have. This thing will fit between the headlight and the housing that holds the headlight. A pair of small hands helps to insert it at the BOTTOM of the headlight which will bring the light back to horizontal. Once you get it in place you can adjust the aim by turning the body of the thing one way or the other. I have had one of these in place on my driver's side headlight for five years and one on my passengers side for just under a year with no problems. The spring tension on the light keeps them in place. If all your aiming screw tabs are broken off this probably won't work but for less than 5 bucks its worth a try. Good luck
