91 runner also 5bills

Well I bought a 91 4runner in perfect shape and I mean perfect for 500 from a friends dad . Ohh forgot to mention perfect besides the motor of course. Its the 3.0 V6. Evidentally someone didnt like to change oil , it got nasty, clogged the oil pump screen, ran with little to no oil pressure till it knocked some then it was parked. I bought it, put new rod bearing in it, and it threw them again so evidentally the crank was a little worse than expected. I am going to have it machined and for the most part rebuilt. BTW it has 115k miles. I'm fairly sure nothing is tore up besides the rod bearing and mains so im getting that taken care of. I am wondering if i should get it completely rebuilt while ive got the motor pulled. Im talking the heads done new rings the whole 9 yards or what exactly do you think i need to have done while im at it. Ohh yeah there is a huge bunch of wires that runs right behing the back part of the plastic timing chain cover that goes to quite a few different places. Im wondering what it the best way to remove/move them so i can pull the motor. Im new at it, this will be the first motor ive pulled i hope this is enough info.Thanks.

Disconnect the harness at the computer (passengers front kick panel). Pull wires from computer into the engine compartment. Pull engine. Take a bunch of digital photoes so you can reassemble the wires and vacuum lines later

The book says pull engine/trans together, but I've seen it done both ways. Easier if you pull the front diff (you must already have it out if you changed the rod bearing). Top engine/trans bolts are TOUGH on an auto

Tlake on here has a turned crank (89 3.0). He was rebuilding his and found a running engine.

If the timing belt/waterpump hasn't been done........do it

Has headgasket recall been done?

It is an expensive motor to rebuild. Where are you located? Easy to add location to your sig line under user cp.

I live in Bristol TN. I dont know if the recall was done. I never pulled the motor before I just pulled the oil pan and then I could get to what I needed to replace the rod bearings. I dont think getting the crank turned will be the expensive part of it but I'm not sure.I dont understand what you mean by pulling the front differential. As for leaving the trans in its a manual so I dont think it would be real hard to unbolt from the motor, But i think im gonna go ahead and pull the motor and trans together.I labeled all my vaccum lines with a white paint marker. I was wondering how much do you think it would be to turn the crank get new rod bearings and mains put in, have him put the better head gasket in, and put in new rings. All being done by a machine shop, I know it varies but id just like a rough estimate.
