'89 Transmission 22re question
I have an 89 4Runner with a stock 5 speed transmission and a 22re. I buddy of mine suggested over filling the transmission fluid to help it shift smoother. Some of them are a little stiff or resist going to gear. Has any one every heard of , or has any one tried this?
Just an FYI... I just bought this in August as a project truck. It has 155,000 on it and I am assuming there has nothing more the oil has been changed for the maintenance.
Thanks for the input.

Over filling it will not cure the problem. It might make it worse.
is the gear shift sloppy? maybe you need to replace the shifter bushings. It costs less than $10 to do it.
Is it only stiff when the transmission is cold? Please explain more.

It is stiffest when it is cold. As for the play, there is a little, but nothing I feel out of the norm. I am not really having too much of a problem shifting, I want to make sure I do not kill the trans before I have to tear it out for a rebuild.

yeah prolong having to take that tranny out. Its a pain even after youve done it a bunch of times.
Tranny wise I say if it aint broke dont fix it.
Might want to change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor while your at it with the oil change if for no other reason then you will know for sure when it was last done.
