my 86 runners rear window won't go down anymore. it all happened one day when i took the rear wiper off to spray paint it, then i put it back on and the window wont go down now? any ideas?

 

by both the switch in the cab and your key?

have you done the standard fuse and bolts check?

 

The wiper unit has a switch in it, as well as the tailgate latches, that won't let the window run if they're not tripped. First, I'd remove the wiper arm again and turn the wiper on and off and let it park. If that isn't it, try pushing hard on the tailgate at each top corner to get the latches to seat tighter. These should do it. Then put the wiper arm back on in the right spot and spray silicone spray on the little parking ramp, and inside the door latches liberally.

The other things that happened to me was the harness that goes into the tailgate behind the bumper on the drivers side took too many rocks and broke a wire. That was fun to find.... Also, too many coffee spills in the switch in the console... and no, carb cleaner is not the same stuff as contact cleaner. And Murphy's law says that when you find this out the hard way it will be winter time and the window will be down so you *will* give the stealer $60 for a new switch.

well the key in the tailgate has never worked, its not connected. i took the wiper off and tried that nothing. umm i looked the switch and its making a connection. the bolt that touches a switch is pushing it down all the way. the fuses are all good. i have the realy out of the truck now but dont know what to look for? maybe the motor is just done for? but it all happened after i took the wiper off that one day?

 

There is a control box for the tailgate in the left rear kick panel... under the sliding window... check your power in & out... also there is a safety in the left rear corner of the body, up inside the worthless storage door.. it is to protect the window when the roof is off...
I had to by pass the latch safety in the '87... window would go up (or out) when the tailgate was down after that..

well i still couldn't get anything done, so a buddy pm me and told me how to hot wire it. did that, so thats the only way the window is goin down now
