It doesn't make sense that changing the head gasket (compression ratio) would solve the aforementioned problem.....but....I could see that if there was some considerable buildup in the chamber, that would be a definate issue although from information I read, I'd guess it was a fuel mapping issue.

Big blast from the past!!!
Ok so, in a nutshell:
The thicker gasket was fitted, the comp ratio lowered, truck was tuned, pinging was gone!!
A 2.1 pulley fitted, and again, ping still nowhere to be heard.
Happy days!
Aquamist WI was also fitted, not to fix anything, but just to cool the set up a little and provide some insurance on the stinking hot days we have here in Aus.
Truck has since been 'retired' from daily duties and gets wheeled once every couple of months. Looks like this now, love the thing!:

After all this time has passed, i feel that she needs a bit of TLC..
I'll be getting her back on the dyno for a retune, because its never been tuned since having the aquamist fitted.
But before i do i was curious to know what plugs i should be using.
To be completely honest i can't even remember whats in it at the moment. This thread says that they are 2 steps colder than the stockers. But this was done when we were scratching about to try and fix the pinging.
So what would be optimal given my set up?
5vz
TRD SC
2.1 pulley
3" exhaust
Aquamist WI
Standalone Engine management
Lowered Comp ratio
Thanks!!

Like I said, i cant remember, and am not home to be able to check what im running, so im curious to see!

The IK22 are the standard supercharger plug, they will work fine.
I have used a few different types of plugs personally, They all work pretty similar. The biggest difference I have found is when gaping the plugs down I do get a boost in performance. I would not gap iridium plugs as the tip can break off (the IK are iridium).
So I have just been running the NGK bkr7e's for the last while gaped down to ~.028 (they open up quick, about 3k miles later they are already up to .031). These are a lot cheaper but also will not last as long. I happened to have some laying around from my MR2.
