Thumbs up 5th gen. 4Runner -- Lexus GX470

Not really a 5th generation, but different. In truth, the GX470 was based on the Prado, but I have to say that although I was disappointed with the exterior styling on the '03 4Runner, the GX470 actually looks nice. My only complaint is that the general shape seems a bit strange -- it could pass for a shrunken Land Cruiser. If only Toyota/Lexus could bump the pricetag down a little more... I've seen 3 on the road or in a parking lot, and I decided it was the rear that isn't so appealing on the '03's, as I like the rear -- especially the taillights -- on the GX470. Apart from all the luxuries, it has adjustable height control. Well, maybe that still fits under the luxuries category, but it's practical too if you're towing versus climbing a mountain. Yeah, it's a 4Runner in a dress, but I just wanted to see if anyone else was of my opinion. Here's a link to the Lexus site with pictures: Lexus Site Link. What do you all think?

i dont like it very much. the back looks like a montero sport and the front looks like a lexus/mercedes. Not my cup of tea. If i had that much to spend I would just get a escalade. CHris

I think it looks pretty good. Don't think I'd spend the extra money on it over a new 4runner though.

Does the Escalade have a ride height control? I would buy it over the overpriced Yukon replica anyway just for its reliability.
But over the Lexus I would Buy the Cayenne turbo 4 sure! Nothing can touch the 450 hp! Except the ML 5.5 AMD, and the VW Touareg turbo diesel, on the same frame as the Cayenne, both have 500 hp.
Doesn't the new Lexus has the same horsepower as the new 4 runner? Aren't both the Lexus and 4 runner on the low end of Hp for Luxury SUV's? Thats a Bummer...
Maby a Lexus with a TRD supercharger would be nice..

That thing is just too ugly to comment on. Plastic, plastic, and more plastic.
