The 5runner: badges and lights
this weekend I'm planning on removing my badges (with dental floss, a bondo scraper, some goop-off, and maybe a bit of lacquer thinner if the glue poses problematic) and I was wondering if y'all have any advice that'll make this turn out any better?
also, it seems my corner lights (driving lights?) aren't working. I'll dig in and replace the bulbs, but i don't think the corner lights worked on my '91 p/u either. I might take the time to hook up some 'strobes' (corner, blinker, and headlights) as well as installing a PA system and I'm just searching for a little advise. thanks in advance. (the ions will come in time)
If I can get a hold of a digital video camera, i'll be making a 'top gear' style documentary of the '97 toyota 4runner mine is based on.

use fishing line for the badges and a blow dryer or a heat gun to soften the glue and the corner lights take a 194 type bulb or you can put a 912/921 bulb in there brighter

I removed my badges with just a plastic putty knife. Didn't scratch the paint or anything, just kept wiggling it back and forth under the badge. Then I used WD-40 to eat through the foam tape that was left, but that still left the adhesive. So I used GooGone for that. Then wash and wax. Worked out real well.

Yeah, removing the badges is easy. I used fishing line to remove each emblem and goo gone to remove the glue.
Be careful removing the toyota logo right above your vehicle's tag, b/c it's not only held on by glue, but also has 4 tabs that snap into the tailgate itself. (hope that makes sense)

damn, i wanted to get rid of that (4runner) emblem as well. how many holes? i might be able to fill 'em with fiberglass, and repaint...but that'll be another day
when i make a grille (maybe a black or stainless mesh) i want to put the little toyota emblem in the lower left corner. i have no plans for the SR5 badge, yet...

The emblem that spells out "4Runner" right above the license plate (and below the one I mentioned above), I'm not sure about. My '02 did not come with that particular emblem.

If you want to know how to make the "poor man" black pearls, check the link I posted above...that's it.
If you're talking about buying them, I picked mine up from a friend at my local toy dealer.

Park it out in the sun (it's about 100 degrees where I'm at, so I'm sure you're getting your share of the sun in Texas, too. Heat gun/blow dryer works, too, but just parking it is easier.
Regarding the rear license plate holder, I'm wondering if the 99+ with no holes will fit 96-98's? When I had my 98, I took the emblems off, and was going to keep them off, but the 4 holes looked hideous. So I painted the ugly gold emblems to a graphite color and put them back on.
