4wd Lo questions

what is the gear ratio for 4L on a 96 tacoma 3.4?

also, does the t-case act like a transmission of sorts just by switching between the three options?

try these:
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/
most likely you transfer case reduces your gears by 2.66 (increase ratios compared to 4H)

normal gear ratio from 4H
http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/8a.htm
gear ratio :1st 3.83, 2nd 2.74, 3rd 1.93, 4th 1.00 5th .83 Reverse 4.23

example of calculation of ratio (in this case for crawling)

Yea, you can change the gears in you're T-case for low range, you wouldn't want to do it for the Hi. marlin crawler has T-case gears, I think they have a 4:1 and 4.7:1 ratios. It's EXPENSIVE tho. 399 for gears and then install.

marlins only work in the older geared cases, not the new chain ones
