4wd light is flashing, wont disengage?

4wd light is flashing, wont disengage?
so i was snooping around and hit the 4wd button, now the light is flashing.... and even with the button out the light flashes, but i didnt move the stick anywhere...
im just driving it right now, but is the light supposed to be flashing? i would only assume that it stays on with 4wd is on and off is its not engaged...
or is it that 4hi it flashes, 4low it stays on...
? ? ? thanks, its a 4runner... thanks for the input
edit: when i hit the button to disengage the light goes out for a few seconds then starts to flash again.
