4WD to a 2WD

Good-day;

I have a bad front driver side drive shaft that makes an awful ticking noise; pretty much all the time now and needs to be replaced.

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to remove the two front drive shafts, and the front differential assemble so it will run as a 2WD rather than a 4WD.

We really don't use the 4WD much, except for winter.. but I just don't know if this is feasible.

Is anyone knowledgeable in this area? Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it.

Thank for the responses; I really appreciate it... so it would be much better to replace the front differentials then to remove them?

it's eaiser to replace a bad cv/axle than to remove the front wheel drive assembly. I agree with the others. Sounds like you have a bad cv axle not a bad drive shaft. The front drive shaft is not hard to remove. However, I think you have a bad CV. The CV axle needs to be there to hold gear oil in the front diff. By the time you remove the CV axle, the front diff and then the front driveshaft, it would have been eaiser and cheaper to just replace the bad CV Axle. There is no way to just remove the bad CV axle without taking the front diff and driveshaft out as well.

Removing the driveshaft and differential is COMPLETELY unnecessary to replace an axle. Like Elton said, remove (4) bolts to disconnect the lower ball joint and you'll have plenty of room to get the axle out. 15-20 minute job, tops.
