4Runner from South Africa

Hi guys, just thought i'd introduce myself as there are not many 4Runners like mine out there. (See below) Here in South Africa it is even more odd as they were never sold here and we all have right hand drives (mine is LHD). Wheeling here is still very much in its infancy with things like lockers only coming into its own fairly recently. Hopefully rock crawling will get more of a following soon. The Toy pick-up we have here is called the Hilux and we had the solid front axle up to 1998, when it was replaced by the IFS you guys had from '86 to '89. Petrol engines for the solid axle trucks were 2.2L & 2.4L only, no Turbo's. Diesel engines available were 2.4L & 2.8L. They were also available in Single or Double Cab (4 door) versions from '88 to '98. The IFS models are available in Single or Double Cab (4 door) versions with the 2.7L and 3.0L KZTE Turbodiesel engines. No V6 engines unfortunately! My father also has a '93 4Runner with the V6 and coil rear front IFS, OME suspension. After Head gasket replacement, a chip & s/steel exhaust this V6 runs really well. I will post a pic later on.

I wonder why the few that are there were imported in the first place.

I've seen about 2 or 3 in SA. They were all second gens from what I could tell. There was a blue one I use to see regularly in Pretoria North.

How do you like the Diesel engine compared to your father's rig?

Welcome here, I'm anxious to see some pics.
