4Runner receiver

Does the spare tire and drop-down cable assembly get in the way of adding a draw-tite style receiver hitch to a 4Runner?

Also, is there any reason to choose one brand over another...seems most run a little over $100 for a class II?

I have never installed one, are they all pretty much just bolt-on installations or is it more involved than that?

Thanks,
Russ

I have a Draw-Tite on my '91, and the spare tire comes down perfectly.

It was already on the rig when I bought it.
It looks like it's a whole bolt-on job also.

The hitch should not affect the drop down of the spare in any way. If you are in to wheeling, I would choose a hitch that mounts almost flush against the rear bumper. I have the OEM Toyota hitch set-up (removed at the moment) and the dang thing drags when I am climbing steep inclines because it mounts so low.
In other words, my departure and approach angle is crap when I have the OEM hitch on (its twice as bad with the ball assembly in).

I went with a U-Haul set-up on my previous Tacoma and was very happy with its mounting point and placement.

Total cost was about $145 out the door without installation, wiring and all.

The hardest part of the install is the wiring IMO.
