does anyone know what the longest (compressed) length you can run for a shock on OME 891 coils on a 3rd gen. 4runner. I'm thinkin its about 14.5 but not sure. Thanks

I would love to see if someone had fully compressed and fully extended lengths for F/R stock 4runner, Tokico, OME, and OEM LC springs and struts.

Keep in mind, bumpstops are part of this equation if you want to maintain your shocks.

 

If you're going with just 891's in the rear, then maybe those 14.5 compressed length is too long. I run the LC shocks in the rear but I have 891's and 2" spacers.

 

Why hasn't anyone tried to put coilovers on the rear of our 4runners. Seems like an easy weld on mount and you could put some coilovers on the rear and give ourselves a trick little set up.
I bet someone has tried. Must be coilbind or fitting the right travel coilover in such a small place.

 

The lengths of the links would then be a limiting factor. :/

 

Unless you lengthened the links, but this would cost a couple of bucks...
Or you could just go completely overboard like this!!

I think that is chickens ride on desertrides.com lots and lots of work. It has to be a beast in the desert. Tim, camburg did a 4runner with coilovers on the rear. Really clean setup, coilovers were mounted on the axles and then pierced throught the floor, but they are completely sealed in a box. Camburg said they were either 14" or 16" coilovers. lots of travel.

I'm torn these days between the 4x4 and desert sites. I used to work for Donahoe and was really into the desert thing, but now I have a 4x4 and I love doing trails.
I'd never dump that amount of cash into my 4runner and make it completely impracticle, I did that with my old tacoma, but I was thinking about seeing what it would take to mount a coilover for the rear suspension. Adjustable height and valving would be nice. Its mostly a pipe dream since I really like having a vehicle that drives well!!!
