Question 4Runner Hood Scoop

Has anyone bought an aftermarket 4Runner hood w/ scoop (99-02) and had problems with fitment? My concern is that if I buy the cheaper aftermarket hood, it might not fit as well as a hood from the dealership. Any help or advice is appreciated.

They sell aftermarket hoods but all you get is the sheetmetal part.
The hood still needs about another $150 in parts (dealer only) plus paint.

A VIS carbon friber hood runs about $450 a piese. Sometimes you can find one on Ebay for $399+ shipping. It looks really cool and much lighter than factory hood and the fitment is very good!

Oh boy...Is VIS the only one? I dont want to put a VIS piece on my truck. Ive heard WAY too much horor stories about them not fitting right, and the latches suck. Heck, the one I got for my cousin's IS300 was WAY off...

On the other hand, anytime you go A-market hood, you should have Hood Pins. I like to have 6, 4 in the front, and 2 in the back near the hinge...

The carbon fiber ones also tend to rattle unless you secure them better than stock because they are so light.

Its all the same hood, but they were an option on 99+ from toyota. The 99+ hood will fit all 3rd gens (96-02)

The OEM scoop garners so much attention for an appearance only item and I'm glad I have one.

VIS is a company that makes knock-off body kits. Theyre known a lot in the sport compact scene...

So,what's the price on the CF Runner hoods w/scoop?

I had a CF hood on my Eclipse which was about $550 shipped and the weight savings was about 23lbs. (39lbs stock hood vs 16lbs for the CF)

i ordered one from racerwheel.com back in aug. for $560 including shipping ($399-$20 discount). They barely just shipped it out this week should come friday The actual hood doesnt cost much its the shipping that kills you. I just found out that prostreetonline is selling them for $521 (free shipping). Will post pics...
