Hey Jay, I was a little confused about what all you had to do in order to put in those speakers. I was considering buying them soon and swaping out my Bostons. Did you have to cut the metal to make a bigger hole or what? You install looks good by the way.
Thanks,
David

Since no one has brought it up yet, HBoss has a nice write-up on how to remove your Door Panels . Good luck and have fun in your car audio quest...

David, I only had to make 3 modifications to fit the speakers in.
1. Relocated the window channel about 1/2 inch back. I did this with a bolt and nut system. Pic labled "relocated"
2. Modified the speaker bucket to fit the larger speakers frame. Pic labled "Back of Bucket".
3. Make a very small "V" shaped cut out to accomidate the speakers frame in the door skin to get the speaker and bucket to fit flush.
I dont know how to describe it better.

Jay,
I'm interested in this as well. When you relocated your window track back 1/2", did you do this only on the end behind the speaker opening?
Or do you have to do it on "both" sides of the window tracks i.e. the left bottom (which you did) and the rightside bottom?
Does this make sense??
Thanks!

:Triple Amps Running in the rear cab.
:5000w Boss outcast pushing dual 10"s and two Kenwood mini-block amps each pushing a 12" sub.
Dual 10" custom enclosure in rear. Mounted 12" Kenwoods in side cab openings
Pics if I didn't have everything taken apart right now.
It was all around $400

$400???? Where do you shop, I'm in the market for some front speakers...
Kind of an old old thread; but I'm in the middle of swaping out my stock junk too. Mounted the amps on the rear of the seats because the front seats already have stuff mounted under them. They are old punch amps that I've had in storage for years, but they still work good. Dynomated all the door panels to try and quiet things down since I have something to listen to now.
Here is my amp rack, when was the last time you saw dimple dies in an amp rack. haha

what is your goal and budget to work with for your stereo? do you want a concert hall in your suv? do you want to just sub out? do you want a screaming system, where your components keep up with your subs so you hear the vocals and the boom from the bass?

I don't have any subs nor do I think I have any room for any. Right now the rear doors have Rockford Fosgate 5.5's and tweeters ran by one of the RF punch amps. The the front is OEM speakers ran by the other RF Punch. I'm just looking for a real balanced system without overspending on this.

since you seem to like the rockford stuff, go with a set of punch 6.5'' components up front. not my first pic but its still budget friendly. i was gonna suggest a set of DLS components for the front. either their C6 or RS6 components. suuuper mellow and not break the bank expensive either.
as for the sub stage, go with a sundown amp and a single sundown SA-8. the amps are bulletproof and take a beating without skipping a beat. the SA-8 is in my opinion the best 8'' subwoofer on the market right now. the slot port box wouldnt take up any more than 1.5cf and if tuned properly, will sound great in the 4runner.
try and find yourself a used SAZ-1000d, they can be had for about 200-250, otherwise your next best bet would be the SAX-1200d, which runs about 600 brand new.
oh, and another thing to consider is adding an additional battery, if you already arent running two batteries in your ride

Memphis... just had to throw that out there. I run 2 memphis M3's and the 1500watt competition amp and memphis front and rear speakers with a pioneer deck and I love the sound. absolutely fantastic.
