4Runner 8" or 8.4" diff

Ok, so I know this question has been asked before, but I'm still a lil confused on what's in my 99 LTD V-6 4X4 4Runner. After searching here I read that all 4Runners have the 8" diff. I called a local, reputable crawler shop and they say mine has an 8.4. I own both a 92 V-6 4X4 4Runner and a 99 V-6 4X4 LTD 4Runner. The Rear end housings are the same, but looking at the outside of the 3rd member, they are different. From pics on a website it says the rear end housings are a 4cyl/V-6/E-Locker. The diff on my 92 is identified as an V-6/Turbo (8")while the diff on my 99 is identified as a T-100/Tundra (commonly referred to as an 8.4). It also says that the diff and the housing on my 99 won't go together, but the are on mine. Did toyota change the cast of the 3rd member on the 8" in later years to that of the T100/Tundra? What diff do I have in my 99 4Runner?? Any help is much appriciated.Thanks,Dave. Here's the link to where I got the pics.http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/

you have an 8"

Tacoma's, T100s and Tundras have the 8.4" unless they have the TRD E-locker.

( its not uncommon for trucks to swap to the 8" for the E-locker )

So did they make different 8" diffs. I only ask because the one in my 92 and the one in my 99 definately aren't the same as far as the outside apperance. I need to swap it out and don't want to get the wrong diff.

Ok something is wrong with my computer and i can't paste pics and my links are running together with the rest of the post, so they won't link. If you click the link in my original post, the pics of the 3rds and axels housings are on there. I have checked, checked, and checked again so I am positive of this. The one in my 99 is the one labeled T100/Tundra. The one in my 92 is the one labeled V6/Turbo. They both however have the same axel housing which is labeled 4cyl/V6/E-Locker. I wonder if this is why I have leaks and whines after a rebuild only a couple yrs ago when it had the same problem. Aren't the studs a different size for these 3rds? I'll try posting just the link to the pics and see if that works. Thanks, Dave

I guess I should have read further on the page I was lookin at. It says that 96 and later 8" had a different cast that looks similar to the T100/Tundra. Would I be able to swap that diff with one made from the old cast so long as the gear ratio matches??
