I'm looking to purchase a 4 runner. I'm looking for around 1998-2000. Any common problems issues I should be worried about or look out for? Thanks.

The 1999+ 4Runners have the better cupholders!!!! In all seriousness, the only problem I've had with mine are the rotors warping (and apparently I'm not the only one on this board with the same problem). I would look for ones that have an e-locker so you wont have to retrofit or put a different locker in the rear.

I would go 99+ personally. I agree about the rotors. Also, make sure the Water pump is ok, they have been known to leak from the seal. Inspect above and around the crank pulley for coolant residue.

That's about it really. Check www.alldata.com and look through the TSB's too.

Ive heard that the powersteering pump is a common one, but Ive never had a problem with mine...

Also check for the famous 4Runner "Ass Sag" Though not nearly as bad as the 2nd gens there is a free recall that you can get new rear coils if you feel its starting to sag a little in the rear (or even if it isn't).

Good luck in your search!
