3rz engine install
Hey every one. I'm new to this site but have a few questions. I bought a new motor for my 97 tacoma 3rz 5 speed I'm just wondering if anyone has done a thread on this with pictures and also wondering if there is some kits that might make the install less of a headache, such as complete bolt kit for installation. Anything to help me would be great iv only pulled and installed my 350 in my Chevy so I don't have any experience with newer motors thanks guys.

Just use any one of the Toyota FSM's to remove or reinstall the engine posted here and on the other boards, but if you've done a motor swap once, you know how to swap most any Toyota motor...just more connectors to fiddle with. Take pictures as you go if that helps.
Using my most recent swap as reference an 84 22RE into a 94 4x4 truck, I found it was best to actually start at the ECU! What I found in the FSM is that the harness plugs into the ECU and next to that, plugs into the chassis. Pull the 5 (will be more on your RZ) plugs through the firewall towards the engine and do the same from the tailshaft fwd. THEN work on your bolts to get the engine out...bellhousing, engine mounts, clutch slave, starter, radiator, remove the A/C compressor and leave it in the engine bay as to not discharge the system, same with the PS pump. The radiator support stays. Don't forget the coolant (heater in/out) and fuel hoses-feed, return and EVAP vac line.
When you pull it, the harness comes with it, like an accessory. the Alternator can stay on it as well as the intake, leave the exhaust in the truck.
Engine removal 'Clip' notes!
