Ok I pulled the necessary bits and pieces cleaned and diagnosed. Applied 1 minute gasket and re-installed. I did think it was a little wet near the top but who knows. The original gasket was hard and soaked not to mention the amount of oil moisture from the top of the t-case down.

Well I knew I should have waited on replacing the shifter gasket, damn I'm still leaking while not as much or at least with no skid plates it doesn't pool. Today the UV dye should be in so this is a last resort and the one I should have taken from the beginning I guess. Stay tuned for more money spent,,,,,,,,,,,, Yeah ! MY wife is right this is the money pit!

Picked up the CSI leak detector... no not that kind of leak.

The glow stuff worked well still left me scratching my head, it appeared to be leaking from the exact sae spot I replaced the gasket. So I pulled it only to learn there was another gasket under a razor thin plate of some kind. I used the light to determine there was fluid coming out of the shifter itself somehow. My t-case does not have a breather line I can find just a top mounted one (shown). I also pull the shifter out of the shifter housing and found DOOOM.
Anyone have a part number for this shifter bushing?












Saw the shifter seat Marlin offered but not sure which one I need!

so is that square paper gasket with the bolt holes in each corner the shifter gasket that everyone talks about? Because my transfercase on my taco is also leaking and im thinking it could be this gasket.

I guess twas news to me but this is how it goes together. Shifter/ gasket/ metal plate thing/ gasket/ t-case. I also know now after searching that Marlin Crawler makes the sifter seat that was demolished on my unit. I'm not sure which I need.

So I went to t5he dealer explained what I needed and they sold me p# 33505-35020. But wait it didn't fit apparently thats for the 5spd tranny shifter seat. And they only sell the entire lever with bushing for $265 ha!

I returned the green non fitting shifter thing and am awaiting a white one to test fit. I missed Marlin Crawler by about 5 minutes yesterday so I will have to call 1st thing Monday, no matter which way I cut it Tuesday is the day my truck will be operational again.

Just got off the phone with Marlin Crawler and overnighted the BLUE shift seat as they think it should work. A white shift seat will be in today at the Stealership so we will see how this goes.

Mine is leaking as well, most likely from where the t-case meets the transmission. Not a likely spot, but I've pretty much ruled out the t-case shifter seal/gasket...which is just a thin piece of paper on my '99.

Not sure what else it could be, but it looks like I'm going to have to have the t-case pulled from the transmission to check the shaft bearing seal.

I'm sorry I didn't wrap this up by saying yes I fixed it. It just so happens the paper gaskets were leaking and that led me to find the junk shifter seat. After 2 applications of RTV to 2 different razor type plates on top of the T-case the leak is fixed and has had to recurrence after multiple trips.

Is this the reason why theres oil all over underneath my truck? My oil consumption is pretty much next to nothing, but there is what looks like leaking oil underneath.

Does anyone have a picture of what leaking tcase would look like?

Perhaps you could submit a picture of what you have and we can say yes that a t-case leak or no it isn't. ANother method if you don't have the UV kit is to use a colored oil like royal purple (purple) or amsoil (red) gear oil and see what happens. Cleaning everything with soap, simple green and water will help you determine the source.

So to resurrect an old thread, I have a 5 spd and have a very slow leak from where the top shifter plate mates to the transmission. So I called the dealer and they said for my VIN, they couldn't provide me with two new paper gaskets and a metal plate. So I bought some toyota transaxle fipg and planned to fipg on both the underside and topside of the thin metal plate and do away with the gaskets. Well, it looks like someone before me had already messed with it before and did away with the gaskets and thin metal plate all-together. There was just lines of old silicon that I had to peel off to clean up the surface.

My question is, should I just fipg without the metal plate in between, or should I wait and see if I can order the metal plate?

So my Transfer case has been leaking forever and I found this tread and ended up checking my 4wd shifter and found out it had no gasket at all and was leaking around the area. I used Gasket sealant and it seems to be fixed for now! Thank god!

Agreed - I'm 99% sure this is exactly where my leak is coming from.
