3rd gen synthetic fluids and ATF flush question...again!
well, ive read all the threads on synthetic fluids and ATF flushes and i dont think ive been able to find a definitive answer. ive own a 96/v6/4wd/Auto/150k for 3months without full knowledge of the vehicles history. ive checked the ATF, TC, and Diff fluids and all are ok. i plan on replacing all fluids with synthetic. at this point i can only afford mobil1 synthetic and this will include ATF and gear fluids. Is the Pump Inlet Flush Machine (detailed in gadgets writeup) safe for my tranny with those milage and where can this be done properly. i will do as much of the work myself that is possible. if i cant do the full flush, how do i make the transition from regular fluids to synthetic. mixing is not an option is it? any advice is appreciated.

The T-Flush machine will make the transition from non-syn to synthetic. Its kind of like a blood transfusion. You never really lose all your blood, the old flows out while the new flows in.
As for mixing the fluids...I dont think you would "hurt" anything per se, but you should definetly do it right. You should get Amsoil synthetic ATF, and supervise the operator of the T-Flush, just to make sure it all gets in there. I think you will need a total of 16 quarts or something.
Hope that answers your questions.

If you're low on funds from mods like the rest of us, you might want to do the flush yourself by disconnecting the tranny fluid return line. Run your engine, add synthetic ATF through the dipstick while it's coming out the hose, into a measuring bucket. Stop the engine to catch up as needed. Count the quarts and when you've hit the correct # of quarts for the flush, reconnect the line. Check your tranny fluid and make sure all is well, and not leaking or low.
There's a thread about that in this forum, just can't remember the thread subject right now.
It won't be a big deal if you mix a little. Just don't half/half it like coolant. A little regular ATF left in, mixed with new synthetic ATF won't kill your tranny.
The hang-up about flushing seems to be that if there is anything wrong w/your tranny or tranny fluid, it will make itself known by performing a tranny flush. Probably more because of the detergent/conditioner they flush with than the actual "flushing" part.
The do-it-yourself way uses no detergents or conditioners, unless you put it in obviously, and doesn't force fluids through. It uses your tranny fluid pump to cycle the fluid.

I'm not going to tell you it's easy, because I've never personally done it myself. I will be doing it this summer though, and at least two people on this board have done it from what I've read. So it sounds like it's just that easy.
