3rd Gen O2 Sensor Information

So I just got through switching out my O2 sensor on my 4Runner. Very easy to do. Most of this information is out of the web, I thought I would put together a quick reference list for anyone else that needs it.

1) Tools
22mm oxygen sensor removal socket. Can be rented or purchased at Advanced Auto (~$30). These have a slit cut in them to allow you to slip around the wiring. Note: others will tell you to just use an 22mm wrench, up to you, just dont round it off. Mine was pretty rusted on, and was a breeze to get off with the socket.

2) O2 Cross Reference Sheet
There seems to be alot of questions about what P/N for which sensor, so here's a quick reference, I found for Denso (also list Toyota P/N and equivalent Denso).

3) Other thoughts...the bank 1 sensor 1 (A/F ratio sensor) on my 4runner is a bolt on; whereas, the bank 2 sensor 1 (O2 sensor) is a screw in. My 02 4runner is Cali compliant (2 cats). Another good website for oxygen and A/F sensors is URD. The best price I found on my Denso sensor was at Amazon. I love Amazon.

The socket tool is only needed for the '01-'02 years. Earlier years have flange-type sensors at both locations, including Cali. models.

There really is no such thing as Cali. compliant exhaust in '01-'02--all 4Runners (50-state) used the two-cat design in those years and Federal and Cali. specs are the same (just the testing and the bureaucracy are different).

Smokey, did you mean $3.00 rental for that socket, rather than $30? I saw the Lisle 12100 O2 Socket on Amazon for $10.

They charged me $30 for to rent the tool. If I return it, I get my money back.

Good information...hopefully having this in one place will help the next person out. And reduce the number of repetitive threads.

I paid $63 from Amazon.

I changed out my A/F about 12-18 months ago. I had the CEL come on. Bought the replacement at sparkplugs.com.
