3rd Gen Muffler Replace Questions

I am looking at replacing my stock muffler with a stainless steel Magnaflow (24") to get a little more power and a better sound. My question is about the inlet & outlet on the new Magnaflow. Should I go with the 2 1/4", 2 1/2", or something else? Also, is the offset inlet/center outlet desired for easiest installation?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

I believe most use 2.25", offset. I know I did. Check out Corey's exhaust page for sound clips and part numbers.

2 1/4" is what you want with the stock exhaust manifold. 2 1/2" is good if you're running headers.

Going larger will rob you of power.

Offset wise... Look at the stock one to be sure, but I think that the '99's still work best with an offset inlet/outlet.

Also... the 24" Magnaflow will be _quieter_ than stock. 18" is a bit louder, 16" is even louder.

And...! Welcome to the forum!

If you go off-roading a lot, I'd check out a spintech cruiser series muffler to really tuck it up above the frame rails for the most possible clearance for rocks, etc. That's what I'm going to be going with. It's actually a muffler for low riding vehicles, but will have the same effect for trucks that go off-road a lot.

Thanks for the input, that helped alot. I'll go with the 2.25" Magnaflow now and change it out in a couple years to the 2.5" when I put on headers.

I checked out those spintech's...talk about built to last
Perhaps someone can get Corey a sound clip of what they sound like and he can post it up. I am definitely going with the big Magnaflow to keep the sound down, yet improved.
