3rd Gen hid retrofit
Hello, I am just wondering if anyone tried hid retofit on your 3rd gen 4runner. Anyone tried to retrofit projector hid instead of just plugging in the hid bulb? Any commend or info is greatly appreciated

it can be done but it'll prolly cost you $$$$$ you gotta buy projector kit and start cutting into your housing to fit it. try to goto www.hidforum.com and get more info you'll get a lot more info about it there.

Remember, there is now a ban of anftermarket hid's. You run the risk of geting pulled over or not being able to get an inspection.
DOT asked the conversion companies for DOT compliancy, so far none of them has provided any. One company did try to get DOT certification last year and was denied. Basically, it came down to the replacement bulb was not a filament, thus did not meet DOT specs for a replacement since it was different.
Fines can be levied for selling non-DOT compliant products, just ask APC.
I personally wouldn't do it. Improperly aimed HID lights are extremely blinding to others. HID setups are engineered for this, while halogens are not. A typical halogen puts light everywhere; the HID is designed not to.
