Arrow 3rd gen 4Runner> MAF interchangable? (Different housings?)

Hey everybody, Got a quick one, I have a 1999 4Runner with a V6 and I recently won a K&N FIPK intake on ebay for 42.00 shipped I thought this was a great deal till I got this useless thing. Anyway I think the MAF sensor housing is different than a 1999-2002. From what I found on k&n's site that theere is a different intake kit for a 1996-1998. Is it possible to use a MAF from a previous year?

Oh BTW, If I can get this thing to work up for grabs is a
4'' deckplate brand new for free!!! thats right free!!!!
I'll even cover postage its only $1.85.

Help me out!!!!!

I wouldn't use a KN FIPK in a 3.4L...our trucks don't like their oil.

Sure is quiet in here, I did some research and found that the maf sensor for a 1998 on down is installed in line seperate from the air box and the 1999 on up has the maf housing mounted permanetley on the air box. Does this sound right? I dunno. Are the electronics/ molex plug compatible to all 1996-2002 4Runners? Help.

sell the FIPK over on t4r.org
the deckplate mod is good enough IMO, and maybe removing the intake silencer.
I get enough crud in my air box with it sealed, i dont know what it would do if it were more open. (I also take it off road)

Don't go switching MAF sensors to the older type, not only will it be a PITA to switch over, they are also harder to service and more expensive when they do go bad (and it eventually will with that FIPK on there). I also, for the life of me, can't figure out why you'd want to put on an FIPK after the countless threads on here with issues regarding their use. They are fine for use on trucks with an AFM, but tend to foul MAF sensors at an alarming rate. Why not just sell the darn thing, get most of your money back and buy an Amsoil or Truflow airfilter for use with your stock airbox. Then you can install your free deckplate and be done with the entire process.
