I called about holes in the frame of my 96 4r on 8-11-10 and was told there was no other reports of this problem. Need to get all 4runner owners with this problem to call 1-800-331-4331. Have it documented and get a ref #. Any government agency to contact?

Finally got a pic when I was getting ready to swap out the rotted rear axle housing. Couldnt get a pic of the drivers side but all behind the gas tank is gone.

Having the same issue with my 2000 4Runner. My frame ROT is ridiculous with about 4 foot section on my drivers side that is cracked and corroded to the point of putting my hand through certain parts. It's difficult to tell how the driver side is since the gas tank is in the way.

I called Toyota and they said my vehicle doesn't qualify because its frame was made in Japan. They know this because my VIN starts with a J. Only American made frames/vehicles are eligible for repairs correction.

I asked her what matter is it where the vehicle was made when the issue is identical? For that, she had no answer and suggested I talk with upper management. I said yes, let's do that and hopefully create a recall for 4Runners which are experiencing the same problems as Tacomas and Tundras. She said I need to write an email through the Toyota website and also a letter directly to Jim Lentz. I will do both and suggest others do the same if we are to start the process of getting anywhere:

I heard that Toyota is replacing first generation Tacoma due to a problem with the frame rotting.

File a complaint here @ NHTSA and get a campaign started.
Apparently Toyota is not going to step up and fix the issues unless they have enough complaints and the government feels that there are enough incidents to pose as a safety concern.

Look on the Left hand column and click "File a Complaint"

Yes lets hit Toyota in the wallet again maybe then they can go out of business or quit selling in the US market .

We can all buy Jeeps Hooray !!

haha im not trying to do that, but my truck is clean. It was a company car for 70k then mine. I've always been on top of it, frame was fairly clean. i was away for 4 weeks come home and quite a bit of it is now missing. I just find it odd so many people have this problem, they recall (3 models i believe) and offer nothing. god forbid that rear arm snapped when I'm doing 70.

It is 14 years old .

Either fix it or sell it.

The frames are easy to fix it is replacing the brake and fuel lines that gets old

Then how about all the steel being rotted in the bridges I would much rather have a suspension arm break at 100 mph then be on a bridge as it falls out from underneath me.

Better yet start a class action suit where you live against the governments using winter chemicals that caused your vehicle rust.
