36 mm Ø nut in front axle

Hi,

I just had the outer CV boots replaced in my Surf and I'd like to know if I need to use loctite on the 36mm Ø nut.

Is the cotter pin on the nut good enough to keep the nut in place? Did Toyota use loctite on it when it came from the factory?

Thanks for any info.

Roy-
I replaced an axle on mine a while back and saw no signs of thread lock compound. With the nut torqued to spec and the cotter pin, it should be just fine.

like what loosehead said, if you torque the 36mm down and use the cotter pin to secure it, you should be fine.

Jayson,

Would you happen to know the specified torque for the 36 mm Ø nut? I would like to have the torque on mine checked, just to be sure.

Thanks again.

Roy,
Sorry to highjack, but, would you happen to have any pics of your rig? I totally dig the out-of-the-states rigs. Something about them being different.

Hey,

Thanks a lot!! I appreciate it. And yes, we prefer N-m of torque since we're used to SI units. When I was in high school, we used to have the FPS (English) units but was later on shifted to SI.

BTW, where can I get hold of a copy of the service manual for a 3rd gen? I presume that the pic you attached is from the FSM. Isn't it?
Thanks again.
