What would be else would need to be done to run 315’s with my current setup? My 02 4Runner is auto with the 5VZ, 4.88 gears, 3”+ susp. Lift and 1”BL. The pinch welds have been pounded flat and I’m running LC wheels 16x8. What are the benefits of running 315’s over my 295’s. Ideally the 315’s would be on another set of LC wheels and off the offroad tire variety, like a Cooper STT, Dynapro MT, BFG KM2, or Toyo MT. Most of which can be had for under $1200 shipped off fleebay.

I ran 315s on my stock wheels with a 3" suspension lift and the outer edges of the rear tires caught the fender and wouldn't tuck inside the wheel wells. In fact the body acted as a brake on the tires. You might just be able to slip them in the wheel wells with your 1" body lift, but I still think it will be very very close.

 

You'd most likely need to swap 1" body lift to 2" and possible do some trimming, cutting, grinding and welding reshaping your wheelwels.

 

Let's here from the crowd that acttualy run this setup to avoid speculation.

 

I have a 3" suspension and 2" body and still have some rubbing in the rear fenders (also running 2" wheel spacers on all 4 wheels). I'm sure if I had proper bump stops, it would keep them from getting stuffed, but nothing a hammer can't fix.

 

The lure of better gas mileage is tempting, with the 35's over their smaller counter parts I'm running. It twas an idea perhaps I'll just stick with 285's as they have served me well in the past.

Even with my big lift, I had to trim a ton out from the rear bumper for full stuff. I even added longer bumpstops.

Due to the fact there were a few guys running less lift than you with 35's I think you can do it. You'll have to do some trimming here and there. With the 4.88's i would imagine you'd be stoked.

Gas mileage might not be as good as the 295's since the 315's are wider though.

 

You could go to the 305/70-16. It's a little bigger 33. Wider.

 

I was looking more at taller but..... hell I don't know. I love my 295's as they are perfect in the sense they fit into the spare location, aren't crazy expensive and so on. I have another set of LC wheels on the way ($250) so while there isn't money for tires at this point in time I'm looking at my options. All are available in 285......... so perhaps I'll go back to that. I have a trip planned to CO in July with some OHV on the CO end but feel my 295 Terra graps will be fine.

Is your 2nd set for street or offroad use?

Interco has Super Swamper LTB's in a 34x10.50x16 (little bit skinnier than a 295) and a 35x12.50x16 (that runs 35.2x12.1) if they were for offroad.

Or maybe a Cooper Discoverer STT 315 (runs 34.5x11.9)

Yes two sets of wheels one for street one for road/hob site offroad... Sam size and backspacing for the rims. Aren't the LTB's bias ply? How do those work down south where its warmer is that a good thing for bias? I like the idea of 34x10.5's, The SSR's are available in a 285 that measure 33.9x11.4 I've run these and they are sick, I also looked at a few more Interco's M16 in a 295, 33.8x12 LTB 34x10, 33.6x12.7, Narrow SS 9/34, 33.8x9.1. Perhaps I'll stick with a larger 33 or 34 and narrowness of the associated with them.

I fit them fine, no problems except for the driver side at full stuff, but that was due to previous wheeling damage in the wheel well so without that knick its perfect...not sure where others are encountering issues but I've yet to find any. But in a sense you're answering your own question, if your 295s are getting the job done in the ways you need them then I can find you several other goodies to spend that grand on.

 

Sorry xmountain80, I used to run 305s not 315s. I must have been really tired last night, not paying enough attention.

Look like I'm sticking with 295's as they don't rub much and well they are cheaper. Now to find a suitable offroad tires set.

If you were closer i'd let you throw a set of 315's on your rims to try. I still have a stack sitting in my front yard Craigslist buyers are flaaaky. I did test fit them on the front though, with 2.5" of lift and no pinch weld pounded it ripped my limited fender off when straightening out.

 

Shnowzer! Yeah that what I figured might happen if I decided on to aggressive a offroad tire. I one had SSR's on my Hilux and it ripped one of the aftermarket fenders clean off! I'll stick with what I have in the 295's as the Nitto's while smooth don't seem to catch much on the fenders and important bits. I'm running the SS lift + an old 3/8 spacer from the old school SS lift days. The rear has the cone still in and is level for the most part with the front. The AT's take me everywhere I'd like to go but the MT's give a little bit more so perhaps back to the days of the 285 Cooper STT.

If your 295s rub then I think you have your answer. The 315s will rub even more.

 

Should be minimal really, I know of at least 4 members that have yet to weigh in running similar if not exactly what I am. Non rubbing tires is just a dream.
