305X70 16 MTR's?

Has anyone tried to run 305X70 16 MTR's on a 3rd gen?

I was checking out the specs and they are 33" tall and 12.2 wide VS 33.1" X 11.3 on the 285X75 16

Will they fit? I'm thinking on Tech1's with 4" backspacing

I was wondering the same thing. When my BFG 285/75's wear out I was thinking about 305/70's on M/T Classic II or Classic Locks. There might be some rubbing due to the width. But, If the ATS arms give you a wider track would that make them work? I don't know. Hopefully we can get an answer.

That would be sweet if they did, because I'd love to have a slightly wider tire.

I believe they will fit with the proper amount of backspacing. I saw a Taco yesterday with 305 baja claws mounted on stock rims. He had very, very little space between the upper a arm and his tire.

I am getting 305 70 16 soon but I am going to get a body lift on first. I think you will have a problem hitting the a arm with factory wheels. If you have 4.0 or less back space on your wheels and only 2.5 of lift you will hit the front bumper at the bottom. I also have a limited so the flares are going to give me a problem in the front and the back. A 1 inche body lift sould do it but I am going ahead and doing a 2 inche, you know how it is after you do some think I always wish I had gotten it a little bigger. I think Hyperlight is running 305 with 2.5 of lift and had to take off his front flare. I realy want a wider tire. I am sick of the tacos looking all wide and mean and my runner looking top heavy.

if you try it please post pics.

I think the baja claw 305 is only 11.7 wide, making it an easier fit than most 305s which are more comparable to a 33x12.5

I am gonna try to run 34/10.5/16's come spring.

that combined with Downey Coilovers cranked up, and a 2"BL should be able to clear those. if not, I will have to do a little pounding.

what are you getting 295/75/16, you should not need to cut anything. Some people on here are running 315/75/16 which is a 35 12.50 16 with 3 inche sup. and 2 bl. I am thinking about trying it with 2.5 sup and 2 bl. I just dont want my gas milage to get any worse.

They should work.
hyperlite had that exact setup except he was sagging a bit in the front b/c of his tjm/winch. His alternative was the BFH mod and he got rid of some of the rubbing. I don't know how it turned out when he got his lift back to normal height. Maybe he will chime in. If you want to see pics check out my "first trip" link in my thread. He is the black 98 with the snorkel.

PS,
Did everything get to you ok Jim? Hadn't heard anything. Hope everythign shipped ok!

Jim,

I would VERIFY the backspacing on the rims you want to buy because mine were listed as 4" one place and 4.25" another. Yours might be messed up the same. I just bought some Tech 1 Rockcrawlers, 16"x8" and they were 4.25" backspacing, but I see from the site that 16"x 10" are 4" backspacing, but like I said, I'd double check.

Here's the link

Mine was different at the bottom from what it said at the top, the 10" appears to be the same. I'd still double check.

Man, I don't know. I'm getting enough rubbing as it is with 285's. I've done the BFH mod, so mostly I just notice it offroad during turning and stuffing at the same time. 285's are pretty wide as it is:

With the stock SR5 fender flares, its nice offroad because I can see where my tires are going, but I get a ton of schlit sprayed up on the sides of my vehicle and the paint chips to prove it.
