3.4 Wide Open Throttle Problem

I noticed this a few years ago, I was driving my dads 97 4runner one evening and went close to wide open throttle once to pass someone and the next stop I came to the engine died and continued to die when no throttle was applied for about 2 or 3 minutes. I asked my dad when I returned it to him and it had never happened to him, I told him watch out for any other issues and then didn't think much of it. At least till now.

I was driving on the interstate tonight on my way to dinner with some friends and went WOT passing on the interstate. As I was getting on the exit ramp I started to break and stall. I had to start it several times before I was able to continue to my destination but when I had finished dinner and come out it fired right up and have had no other problems.

Two 3.4's, two different year models, same exact problem.

Anyone else heard of or have dealt with this issue?

pressure regulator getting stuck? clogged fuel filter? weak pump that can't keep up?

I've thought about that, but both of them run fine and have plenty of power under WOT, I would think that is when lacking fuel would show the most.

On the other hand maybe too much fuel is being deliver after WOT... But my problem tonight would disprove that, I was just pressing moderately on the throttle for 5 to 10 minutes after WOT before my stop

Thank you both for your responses

Also this isn't something that seems to be a huge issue, it is so rare I drive in the fashion that causes this problem. I'm just darn curious!
