3.4 swap getting started

Well It looks like I will be getting started on the 3.4 engine swap for my 95 runner soon. This is the engine that I most likely will be getting.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2442741930

My question is other than what is provided with this engine, what else will I need to make a successful swap? My runner is a 95 with an auto trany. I am thinking of getting the conversion wiring harness from Off Road Solutions, but I don't want to get the whole kit because of cost. I would like to get every thing I need in advance so that the swap will go quick and smooth. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Also, should I be concerned that the vehicle this engine came out of was fresh watter flooded? What questions should I ask the seller?

Oh and I have a 1'' body lift. Will that be enough to accomidate the 3.4 engine without hood modifications?

Dude, huge red flag in my book. How do you know the engine was not hydro-locked? What garantees can the seller make?

I would steer way clear unless he can prove with absolute certainty that this engine will run. Can you imagine getting everything in and the engine not starting?

Is there anyway to tell if the engine has been hydrolocked without installing it?

I would steer clear of it. There's just too much liability when purchasing an engine that has been in a flood. IMO you would be taking a chance if you bought it. I'd keep looking.

for only 3002 miles, that engine looks pretty dumpy.

And like everybody said, I would back away from a fresh water flooded engine (doesn't that mean the engine took on water?)

Yeah, I am leery of the engine being out of a flooded vehicle, but I can get it for only $700 the price is really what will make this project possible. So if the vehicle was flooded but not running at the time could water have gotten inside the engine block? How do I find out? What questions should I ask the seller? He said that it was cranking in the Taco he had it in but do to incompatible ECU it would not start. Dose that sound plausible? Any info in response to the questions in my above posts regarding the actual swap?

Thanks

Well I see that you live in seattle. You should find out where he's got the engine, and go check it yourself. That's a killer deal, but with zero bids and the mention of water, I'd have to make sure. Getting screwed out of $700 is something that I don't want anyone to deal with.

When I put my truck in the drink the ECU got flooded and stopped running. Everytime I tried starting it up it would just turn over. Everyone I was with helped me dry everything out including the ECU. It started up after a couple of minutes and some starting fluid. So it's possible that the engine didn't want to start because the ECU was wet. Good luck on the swap.

well. If i were you i would pull the plugs. look in each cylinder. Take a big wrench and turn the motor over by hand. Keep turning it over and listen to hear anything rattle or clunk or grind. This motor is a gamble. You could get a smokin deal or you could lose your money. I think if it turns over smoothly and you hear all the compression strokes it will be fine other than electrical. If you have a buddy that knows alot about motors and what they should sound like when turning them over take him along. A compression test would be nice.
Myself. If i bought a truck with 3000 miles on a water flooded motor i would keep the motor and purchase electical for it. I see a HUGE RED FLAG WAVIN .
Im curious. whats your budget?

My Budget is about $2,100 total, with a little wiggle room. I have a stocked garadge and a good knoledgable friend to help with the process.

I would talk to the guy. Ask if you can buy it outright. Then head out with your tools and do some tests. If it seems ok grab it.

Any other suggestions on how to test it other than what you previously posted.

Thanks

Pulling all the plugs out will make turning the crank over much easier. Look inside the TB too (signs of H20 damage).

red flag. red flag. red flag.

it's going to be a gamble on the engine. it could be perfectly fine and fires up once the electricals are fixed. but then again, it could be hydro-locked requiring a whole rebuild. IMHO, i would keep on looking.

btw, that particular engine has been on ebay several times with 0 bids. so, that should tell you something.
