My 95 tacoma overheated last night! Going up a hill noticed that the temp was getting up there so I pulled over popped the hood and coolant started to boil over from the coolant over flow. So I let it cool down added water and drove it back home. I recently done the timing belt and water pump about a month ago. Anybody got a problem like this before? Need all can! Thanks!

How is your thermostat? You said you just did the t-belt and water pump, perhaps you had an air bubble trapped in the cooling system, happens all the time.

When you first start the truck and as it warms up do you see the temp gauge climb in temp then all of a sudden drop in temp. If it does do as mentioned the thermistat would have just opened, potentially eliminating a stuck thermistat. also if the radiator gets hot then you know coolant is circulating.

Another idea is, a bad radiator cap can cause the radiator to push hot coolant into the over-flow and not maintain the needed pressure on the coolant system to keep it from boiling.

Is your engine the 3.4? The 3.4 wasn't offered in the tacoma until 96. Did you do a swap?

If you have access to a heat gun take readings from both top and bottom radiator hoses... should be at least a 30 degree difference across the radiator. Also check to make sure airflow is not impeded... the fan clutch could be to blame as well

I pulled it this morning the thermostat its the oem one with the little valve on the top

I just changed the thermostat and the radiator cap. The cap looked old rubber was damaged. Changed the thermostat too just in case. Filled the radiator up and let it idle for 30 minutes. Temp gauge looks good. I'm crossing my fingers!
