Searched the archives but was unable to come up with an answer on tire size for a 2wd...

Have 2000 4runner SR5 2wd, stock with 265/70R16 Goodyear tires. Right now I'm not planning on updating the suspension or adding any lifts. Can you tell me what the largest tire size might be that would fit without rubbing? It's time for replacement and I'm looking for a more aggressive tire than the allseason Goodyears.

I think you're stuck with that size. The 265/75 may be too big since the 2WD is about 1" lower. Have you chosen a tire?

 

If you are truly planning on staying with the stock height than I agree with Gapguy. 265/75 may rub depending on what you get.

 

If your planning on AT's just get 31X10.5

 

I was planning on getting something more aggressive than allseason, probably an AT type--mostly for onroad use though. How do the 31x10.5 compare to the 265/70R16 which I have on now? Do they hit anywhere?

I contact tirerack.com and they are not recommending anything larger than the size I have on right now...but I wanted real-world opinions too.

Would a 265/75R16 A/T tire fit or would there be a bit of rubbing. It looks like just a slightly taller tire. Would I even be able to tell it was any taller than my stock 265/70R16 tires?

I would be willing to bet that a 265/75/16 would fit. My (2WD also) truck came with 265/70/16s when it was new. I put 265/75/16s on it after I lifted it around 2 1/2". Going to a 265/75/16 like I did is basically going from a 30.5x10.5 to a 31.5x10.5
It's not that much of a difference. You should be able to find a tire shop that would be willing to let you test fit some 265/75/16s. If they rub at all it would probably be minor and could be fixed with a hammer/knife.

See, I could probably fit 285/75/16s. If you are going to be upgrading your suspension down the road go ahead and get the 265s.

At this point I'm probably not looking to up the suspension or install a lift. Everything is stock height right now and I'll probably leave it like that for the near future. So looking to find out if 265/75R16 would work or not or if I would really see any difference in height.

I'll probably take your suggestion and have the shop mount up a 265/75R16 and see if it rubs--probably the only way to know for sure.

 

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, try the tire shop. My bet is that depending on what fender flares you have, if any, it will only rub a little in the front. Most folks that have any rubbing in the front just use a hammer to fix their worries. No biggie.
