I am now in the market for some sway bar disconnects for my 95 runner. I have looked at all the different designs available, but I want some opinions from people who are using them, not manufacturers.

What kind do you have? What are your likes/dislikes? and how much did you pay?

I ran Rockstompers and liked them.

When they were loose, they clicked and it was annoying. Had to keep them greased every month or so too.

One of the heims broke and I swapped to thicker torsion bars so there is really no need for them any more.

 

Adrian--I have seen your truck in action CO4RJ dvd. I have to say your truck is one of my favorite 2nd gens on this board. I would get the thicker torsion bars if I had a bumper/winch combo.

I like the ones I made, they seem to work fine. They're a little clicky when they're loose, but when they're tight there's very little clicking. Plus, they are really easy to reconnect. My friend's QDs on his grand cherokee are a pain in the butt...so much so that he never disconnects them.

They seem to be a pretty good deal at only $50 he also has the rear disco's and other asst'd bushings.
If I tell you what kind of lights I have on the way, are you gonna have to get those too?

Hey Rob--low blow!! Actually I fired the guy that was going to get me lights=no lights.

So the discos Lee makes and the ones robinhood makes are the same. They look very simple, but effective. I may have to call Steve and use his tools to make some.

 

Nobody else has opinions??

 

I have Lee's. I've been having difficulty keeping the heim tight in the sway bar. I'm going to have a bushing fabbed up so the heim is a tight fit in the swaybar. Other than that, they've been good.

 

I guess I will have my fabricating friend make me some with the same design as Lee's and Robinhoods.

 

Cebby.. I didn't know you were having trouble keeping them tight. Do you remember just what you have for the washers?? The latest ones have the 3/8 nut, 3/8 washer, then an external tooth washer, sway bar , external tooth washer, 3/8th washer and nylon nut.. Is this what you have in there?? I seriously have never had mine loosen (except for the first time when I did not have lock washers and tried to use just lock tight..)

If you need any of those washers I can send them out to you..

Yep - same setup you described. I'm going to pull them apart if it ever gets above freezing and see what's up. Somehow they are loosening up. There is a pretty big difference in size between the threaded part of the heim and the hole in the swaybar. The roads around here are absolutely horrible this time of year, so I think a good shot from a pothole gives it enough stress on the assembly to let it slip. A bushing to take up the difference in the sway bar hole is the answer IMHO. I'll let you know how it works out.

Couldn't you have held off firing the dude until the lights were on your truck? You know once I get some lights, a night run is definitely in order!
