I am new to the forum, but I am on my 2nd 1995 4Runner.

I know that there are a lot of you that like the Bilstein and Edelbrock shocks. My question is, if I am looking to raise the rear end to be level with my front end (t-bars NOT cranked) will the shocks be long enough?

I am considering the Old Man Emu coils, and I would prefer the Bilsteins. I had a 98 Tacoma TRD, and I loved the ride of the Bilsteins on it.

Any info would be appreciated.

But to get right to the point, stock length shocks are fine, even articulated.
I would not worry about longer shocks on a 2nd gen unless you put the 1.5" spacer puck in with the lift coils.

You will net about 2" or so with Downeys, and maybe more with the OME coils.

This is how my rig sits on level ground with the Downey HD coils, Edelbrocks, and SAW T bars cranked up a bit.

It might sit even higher in the rear if I did not carry about 300 extra lb of stuff back there.

 

The most popular option for 2nd gen suspensions is the Downey 1.5" HD coils with Bilsteins. I just put them on last week and it feels like a whole new ride

The only problems I had with the install was working with the top of the passenger side rear shock(bitch of a place to reach) and getting the new springs in (two people needed).

 

I have the Edelbrock monotube IAS on all 4 corners and added the Performance Products 1" lift springs along with the AirLift bags and compressor in the rear. The result was a 2" lift from where it had been and it now sits level all the way around. The nice thing is it has a very smooth ride and firms up on the trail. The shocks made a HUGE improvement in handling and cornering. I can air up the rear if I am carrying extra cargo and it still gives me a great ride. Be careful- I have seen some posts from others complaining about the Downey coils and Bilsteins being too harsh in some instances.
Do me a favor- once you get the mods done promise me you'll head up to Amicalola and let loose!!!

I remember my first post like it was yesterday... 700 members later, and here we are.

The search function is quite powerful. I use it to dig up old stuff from time to time, but I still forget to use it sometimes.

Anyhow, I've got to chime in for the PP springs (Eibach, I think). These have given me enough room for 32's with no rubbing. The ride is considerably better, too. I have stock length Bils all the way around.
