2nd Gen Headlights

One of my headlights just burnt out so I'm going to get some replacements.

Anyone know a good 'upgrade' to the stock headlamps? I could just get some more Sylvania's but is there anything better which would just plug 'n play?

Thanks,

Warren

From time to time I see headlights on eBay for 1st gens that allow you to use H4 bulbs instead of the standard sealed beam. They are much more clear than stock and look pretty nice. Looks like you have a 90 or 91, not sure if you have sealed beam or not. If so, they would probably work for you. If not, ignore me.

I ran Hella housings on my '90 truck I had, and now the 4Runner.
They are brighter than the stockers. You can also take out the 55/60 watt H4 halogen bulb in them and run a brighter one such as a 55/100.
That's what I ran in the truck.

You will notice a much better beam pattern with these since the lens is focused.
Also when the lamp burns out, just change the bulb and not the housing.

I fell into the Piaa Super White crap and bought their Super White Platinum bulbs a few years back.
They appear brighter, but are worthless in my option.
See my write-up:
http://www.pnw4runners.net/tando/piaa.htm

Although folk's with 3rd gens report nothing but nice things about the Piaa's.

They don't work well in the rain, the light all but disappears.
The stock H4 bulb that comes with the Hella housings is better IMO.
Soon I'll get around to picking up a plain pair of H4s in the 55/100 watt type.

You can get the Hella housings at Central 4WD:
http://www.central4wd.com/store/itemdetail.asp?ID=5025

These are DOT approved as they have the nubs on the lens for aiming machines.
The ones I had on my truck and now on the Runner are called the Eurobeams. Same thing as the Vision Plus lens, but mine are not DOT approved as they don't have the nubs on the lens.
Mine came out before the Vision Plus ones.

These are worth the money, just don't fall for the Piaa, or other super bulb crap.
Here is a good guy to read up on lighting. He's considered the guru of lights.

I use the Hella Vision plus. Bought them from Summit. They have a VERY distinct top beam cutoff. Good for not blinding other drivers.

Check out this mod I did last week. I bought some ultra small h4 halogen lamps and installed them into the headlight bezel. With it integrated behind the clear plastic protectors, they look awesome.

I also sprayed the headlights with a tint film to give it the dual round look.
