2nd Gen 4runner - High mileage
I'm looking at this 1990 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 for sale with 219,435 miles. It's from used car dealer so they don't have the history. Anyway, do you guys think this is worth $1500? That's how much he's charging.
At this mileage, what are the necessary parts that need to be changed? Anyone out there with 4runner with this mileage?

If it is the 22re 4 cylinder go for it. Thats what I got. Mine has over 300,000 miles on it, original. Pretty beastly. Its a great rig, if you have the 4 banger. If not stay away from the 3.0 V6. bad head gasket problems etc.

Good Deal-sounds good
Too good to be true-who knows
You could have it looked at, but for 1500 I'd just make sure the frame is straight, no salvage, and it drives ok....
milage & parts replacement-no way to know w/o history.....check and see if there is a recent sticker for t-belt changed oil changed anything otherwise your guess is as good as anybodies.....
As far as milage it's high, but not that high in Toyota standards....a few of my buddies have upwards of 300,000 on theirs, some on here have like 400,000 and I've seen 550,000, and been told bout almost a million ones
Also.....big question....?
22re or 3.0

I've got a 91 v6 4x4 with 250,000 miles and it runs like a champ. I'm with toyota 4x on this....check on rust, straight frame, no salvage on the title and if it hasn't been done recently maybe talk them into doing the t-belt. I'd say go for it.....check on the headgaskest....mine was done in the recall and my 4runner runs perfect, but even if not you could part it out for that amount. sorry for the long post....hope it helps

I love how some people take every opportunity to trash the 3.0 :pat:
I have a 1990 3.0 with 191000 on it and it is running strong! The 3.0 did have head gasket problems however Toyota fixed this problem.
Sure the 3.0 is a little harder to work on but it's not the nightmare that some people make it out to be.
You should always pay to have a mechanic look at the vehicle before buying. Also a carfax is a good idea as well.

Don't put too much stock in junk like this. The 22RE is great, but the 3.0 is built to last, too. A guy around here (SilverTruck on yotatech) has like 400k+ miles on his 3.0. Some 3.0's did have headgasket problems, but like someone else said, Toyota had a TSB about them, and most were replaced.
I say try and get it for 1000, and even if it dies (which is unlikely) you could part it out and probably make money on it.

Test it out, have a mechanic look at it (if you want, don't pay more than like $25-$30 to have them inspect it), do a CarFax for SURE, check under the hood, crawl under it, check t-belt, see if there are ANY signs of it being serviced regularly, sometimes you can take it to a dealer and have them run the VIN and see if its been serviced there at all and you can get an idea of how well it was taken care of.
If it all checks out, can't go wrong with a price like that.
