2nd Gen 3.0 Headers
I'm taking a hard look at the Downey headers for my 3.slow. My wife seems to think there is a hole in one of the exhaust pipes (gotta be pre cat due to the stainless Borla on there). So why wouldn't I upgrade if there is a hole - perfect opportunity right?
Anyway, I'm doing a Roger Brown 1" BL to fit 33's. I've heard that a BL makes the header install easier. Is there any truth to this?
How long should this swap take and can it be done in a driveway without any really special tools? I've read writeups about having to grind away some of the flange - which I have no problem with. Is the rest of it (headers, crossover pipe) a bolt on? Yeah, I know - PB Blaster the studs for starters...
As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Cebby, I have read a few times that the people who have put the headers on the 3.0 said it was not worth it, as they felt no difference.
Here are a few articles I have read in the past.
This guy says he saw an improvement.

You might get a hold of Ldivinag (Leo) at ODW.
I think he has them, and he was not to fond of them.
It could be someone else though who had said that.

Cebby I too have read that a body lift will help you out. I've heard that headers are one of the best performance mods for the 3.0 I am not sinking anymore money into my engine because that things gotta go!

Cebby,
I have the NWOR headers on my truck. They made a noticable difference in my opinion. No more sudden power surge around 3K RPM. With a Flowmaster muffler it almost sounds like a V8. I had mine installed during the head gasket replacement and I know it was a tight fit even with the motor apart. Since we are so close, we should meet up so you could test drive my truck and see if you think its worth the $ and hassel. I'd even be willing to help you put them in.

Cebby,
Do you still work up the road from my house in West View? If so, I can stop by on my way to work next week some time. If you want, PM me with your phone # and I'll give you a call to set something up. I'm at home right now so I won't get any PMs until I get to work tomorrow. Oh yea, I have a 5 speed so I hope you can drive a stick.

Cebby, by far, the Downey headers made the biggest improvement compared to the rest of my mods. When I installed mine I did the Downey exhaust system at the same time so that contributed to the huge improvement. I'm guessing you will still feel a huge difference in the bottom end. Good luck on the install!
