285 fit

Will a 285 tire fit under a 3rd gen 4Runner (spare tire, will it clear underneath where the tire cranks to frame)

no, it won't

I've tried fitting a Geolander HT-S (street tread) under there on factory spare wheel... also tried to fit Cooper STT on LC rim, no go, also tried worn random all-terrain on LC, still no-go

I think some people may have had luck with airing down significantly, but I think you'd still have to pry it up there... not good, panhard bar rubbing on it would eventually snap spare tire cable. I tried every possible way of wedging full geo on stock rim under there, never worked...

so I got rid of my spare

until I got new wheels and tires, and then made a tire carrier that fits in the hitch

mY 285 BFG AT fit. barely. Yep I had to wedge it in there. Would have been easier without the stock hitch though.

I want to do something like this but get like a 33x8 or something real skinny like that so it doesn't hang down so much.
