22RTE for sale near me

So I was looking for a decient engine near me and ran across a 84 pickup with an 86 22RTE in in for $1000obo. Now I got a 87 4Runner with a blown engine. This pickup also has HKS 2" exhaust, intercooler, and vari boost control. A 4" lift and frt/rear air lockers with 4.88's in it. I am highly considering swaping it all into my 4Runner providing the engine has low miles but will it be too big of a project?

I will have to swap the transmission and t/case too, but will I have to change the rear end right away, or can I wait till I do a sas? the Turbo tcase has 23 spline and my current rear end has 21 I believe, will that not work?

I have yet to find if its a 5 speed or automatic, or if its floor mount or front mount transfer case, but most inporntantly how many miles on the engine.

I think that it could be a very good investment but I also wonder why he's selling it for so cheap if it has all these mods, I will find out soon and keep an update but opinions are welcome. Thanks

if it's an '84 truck, the odds are the engine's been swapped in. better check for the R151F tranny, as that's what you'll hopefully find(instead of a G52). there's a rubber plug you can use to identify it, i'm a little hazy on where it's at though.

the 22RTE powered trucks got the strong R151F transmission and the 23 spline geardrive case(VERY desirable). it's not uncommon to see those transfer cases going for $200-300

just to answer that, it has nothing to do with your differential. you just cant mix and match 21 and 23 spline transmissions and transfer cases(e.g. you need to have the same on both. you can swap out the t-case input shaft though)

yea that makes sense acuially cause i looked at my truck and saw that they all just bold up, i just didnt know if there was a certain output of the tcase that went into the rear driveshaft before.

i called the guy and it had arb air's and lift and everythign he said, but it was all in parts and sitting in his yard for like 5 years. He said the stock tcase was blown and he threw in some other tipe. Im pretty pissed i missed out on all this cause just air lockers cost more than 1000 for both, o well all i care about right now is getting my truck back on the road.
