22RE won't start... help!
Okay guys, this is an odd thing. I am hoping someone else has had
a similar problem.
Bro in law borrowed the truck to take the keg back this afternoon.
I decided it was time for an oil change. So when bro in law returns
I drop the oil and oil filter, replace the oil and oil filter, and swap
the air filter while I am at it.
Now, I reach in the truck, hit the "clutch start cancel" switch so I
can fire it up and let it run a moment to check my oil level. All lights
come on, turn the key and nothing...
Turn the key again... nothing.
I get in the truck, turn the key off, put the clutch in, turn the key on
all lights come on, and then... nothing. Lights dim just slightly. I can
hear the fuel being pumped into the throttle body, but the starter
does nothing.
The truck is cool... the starter doesn't even engage. I need some
help here... I wonder if it would start if I bump started it?

Sometimes the starter contacts go bad. Do you hear a click when you turn the key? No chance you knocked off the trigger wire for the starter when you changed the oil filter??
Any more info, this is uncommon.

There is no click from the starter. A friend suggested the starter, but
I doubt both the soleniod that engages the starter, and the starter
motor would both go bad at the same time... right?
I figured there would either be the 'click' of the solenoid, or the
spinning of the motor... there is neither.
I don't think I knocked anything off... my fear is that it has to do
with that 'clutch canel' switch or something.

1) Check the battery that it has full charge. From the sound of it, it is probably OK.. but I would start there
2) Starter would be my secong guess. Either the wires TO the starter ( could be both ground and positive, or most likely just one of them)... could be the starter itself. I had a similar itermittent problem on a 1988.. the wire connections were old and corroded, and once in a while it would not turn over, especially when cold weather hit. I cleaned all of the connections (including ground to the truck body and all of the connections to the starter) and it solved the problem. Not sure how yours is wired, but my guess is, if it is not the battery, it is most likely one of the wires going to the starter.
You mention oil change.. on 22 RE, oil filter is VERY close to the starter. If you replaced the filter, you could have concievably nudged the wires enough, that, if they were loose or corroded, it could have caused the problem.

Seems I knocked off the wire that goes to the starter solonoid.
It was a small green wire, that just clipped right back on. How odd.
Must have done it when I changed the oil filter out.
Thanks for the advice.
