22re-LCE header and Hooker muffler review
A while back I replied to a thread about mufflers, their CFM's etc. I had mentioned that I was going with a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler on my '86 4Runner. A couple of members here inquired about the muffler but I hadn't had it installed until today. I just had the entire exhaust completed. It consisits of:
LC Engineering header #14-4112 C.A.R.B. legal
Catco #6005 universal 2-1/4"x14" catalytic converter
Hooker #21501 2-1/4"x14" Aero Chamber muffler
2-1/4" crushbent piping
This is on my stock '86 22re 4Runner. The SOT feel is that it gained a few ponies across the powerband and the engine just seems to want to rev up to 4k faster then before. It idles very quiet, almost stock, hower it's pitch does get higher as you rev it. It definitely sounds like a high pitched four banger at 4k rpms and above. I would say the sound is similar to 22re's with a FlowMaster. If anyone is interested I'll post some pics and try to get a couple of soundbytes to Cory to add to the muffler sounds website.

I was hoping someone had a review of the Aerochamber. I came across those in a magazine almost a year ago. I wasn't interested in installing one on my 4Runner, but I like the price and design for my trail rig.

I have an '89 pickup with 22re, put pacesetter header, no cat, 2 1/4" flowmaster delta-flow 40 series (single in/dual out) with custom built 3" k&n(replacement filter) intake on it. I know its mine and all but i don't think I've ever heard a better sounding 4banger, its surely loud but it sounds gooooood! I'd recommend this combo to anyone. It gives the truck a good bit of pep.

im trying to find some sound bytes with this stuff on a 22 r-e cause i have the flowmaster 40 series muffer running 2.25 exhaust system and i want to get a header, high flow cat, and a K&N intake system for it. so if anyone has any sound bytes of a nice exhaust system for a 22 r-e please post them

I'll try to get a sound clip today. However, now that I've had the exhaust for a week I'm still not sure that I like it. Although the muffler design is chambered, it's not restrictive at all (you can see straight thru the muffler) so it's pretty loud. It's gotten a little quieter now, but at 4k it really screams.
