22RE with highflow cat??
Does anyone have a high flow cat converter on their 22RE? If so what manufacturer did you use (and p/n if handy)? also was it a direct fit bolt on, or did you have to have a shop weld it up?
I think my cat is either getting or is plugged and need to replace it. Are there any performance gains with the high flow cat or should I just get a regular old cat?

A high flow cat alone might not make much of a difference in performance. The best performance gain for the 22RE in exhaust improvements is a header, free flow cat, a 2.25" exhaust, and a free flow muffler. Doing just one of those alone might make a small difference. From my build-up experience, the most noticeable difference was from my Doug Thorley header. The rest of the exhaust system was changed, but the difference was not great. I have a DT header, free flow cat, 2.25" exhaust, and a FlowPro muffler. It makes a noticeable difference over stock. I am able to climb hills better, need to downshift less often, and can cruise at 75 mph+ with power to spare. I am not sure that all of this is related entirely to my exhaust modifications, but I know that a lot of it is.

HP "gain" seems to be dependent upon the vehicle in question. For example, SCC did a test by placing a high flow cat on an RX-7 and an MR2. Neither vehicle gained any power. In fact, the MR2 lost 1HP.
When you say "gain" I assume you mean a performance gain over stock HP numbers. But there could be a gain from your current HP numbers if your stock cat is clogged.
How many miles do you have?
High flow cats are way cheaper than stock, so I would go that route if I was in your shoes.

I agree with Glenn. I just installed Downey headers, 2.25" pipe, a free flow cat, and a Magnaflow muffler. All I have to say is WOW! It really moves! :bounce2: I used the Dynomax cat out of Jeg's. Its 59.99 plus s/h. Its a weld on. I took it to my dad's favorite shop to get it welded on. It cost $150 for all the pipe (basically cat back since the header came with a pipe) and labor. I used the 18" Magnaflow. Its louder than stock for sure, but not too ricey. For some people it might be a little too loud, but its perfect for me.
The DynoMax cat is item number 289-15037. Its a 3-way 2.25" w/o air tube.
