Unhappy 20r vs 22r exhaust manifold

will a 22r exhaust manifold bolt up and work on a 20r head and motor? i am having to do a motor swap now and a 20r is all i could find in the time alowed. i am having to move by the end of the month and i still dont have a place to move to.

unless it's an aftermarket header you'll have a hard time working it. the 20R has 1 stud between the 2 sets of exhaust ports and the 22R has 2 studs.

Don' think so. Header for the 20R and 22R don't look similar.

everything is the same on pre-85 engines except for those center studs. most early style headers just have 3 holes in the center so they'll work with either engine, but the stock manifolds don't

but......found this out today when screwing up my 86 exhaust manifild and then going to fit up my 84 manifold. Yes, the 86 manifold has 2 studs in the middle whilst the 84 has 1 stud but the head (at least my 86 head anyway) had bosses for both configurations. You just jave to remove the 2 studs and swap one to the middle boss to use the other manifold. Of course you'd have to make block off plates as they both use different piping arrangments for the AI/AS systems. If you need to keep the emmissions systems, then you'd have to get the one that fits the other manifold as well. If you've removed the emmissions (like me) you just build some new block off plates.

bloops, that was me in my less-informed days. all '75-84 manifolds are compatible(1 center stud) while '85-95 had 2.
