Hi all,

Was on my Xmas trip back home & my check engine light started to blink. Pulled off @ the next rest area. Left it running & popped the hood & @ some point the light went off.

Kept going & 30- 45 min later the light started again.. pulled off @ next rest area, put it in park & within a few min it went away. Repeated that again, but this time the light stayed on.

During this whole time the truck runs fine, highway speeds without issue, no bucking, no hesitation.

Had the codes pulled to see what is going on here they are...

Cylinder
Misfire Detected

Misfire Detected

Question: Is it safe to drive back home to fix or should I have it fixed before I go back...

Try and get it fixed before you go back. Sounds like you have an electrical gremlin from the sporadic nature of the CEL. Hopefully that and nothing more

 

Electrical Gremlin... could a new battery help? I think it is original. I put a load tester on & it is just passable.

 

Maybe. If it's just barely passable you need a new one anyways.

 

There is a reason #2 and #5 cylinders are misfiring even if so slight you cannot feel it, possible water in the gas . The light flashs when the cat is overheated and is in extreme danger of a meltdown. When you have a misfire those cylinders are running rich and rich mixtures overheats the cat. Probably ought to have it looked at and diag.

Took it to a local shop, they called the dealer for parts..

This is scary... Dealer didn't know why I had platinum plugs.
